Mendolia Beach Hotel - Taormina

Very helpful staff - especially at breakfast when I was provided with gluten free brioches, crackers etc etc. The view and beach facilities were superb and close to the chair lift to Taormina.

The views from our balcony were beautiful - across to an island and the sea. The room was clean, comfortable and fine for a couple of nights. There was free wifi and the breakfasts were very good. It was overlooking the sea, and had a private beach with good facilities. The cable car into the town of Taormina was a short walk away. There were lots of restaurants close by.

There was a quite high charge for using the hotel car park, which seemed wrong as otherwise the parking was on narrow busy roads and impossible to know if you would find a space. I think there should also have been some mention of how many steps there were down to the beach. If you had problems with joints it would have been really painful and hard to get down and then back up. There were around 138 steps. Also maybe some mention of the pebbly beach which was very hard to walk on, and swim from - maybe suggesting you pack shoes for this.

The view was outstanding, the use of the beach great, the friendly staff & the delicious breakfast made us really enjoy our stay & extend it for an extra night. The hotel was really close to the cable car, making it easy to access taormina.

This hotel is a little bit dated but has all the facilities you need. We had a small balcony which was great to see the beautiful view. The hotel suppies you with beach towels and sunbeds.The breakfast was amazing to look at and am sure would have tasted great but I don't like sweet food in morning.would have loved afternoon tea tho!! The coffee was great and had loads of other bits to eat. Resturant directly opposite was great.

A perfect place in Taormina. Good breakfast and friendly staff. The view to isola bella and the beach access was perfect.

The air conditioning was very poor. Everytime you open the door to sit on the patio or go out to dinner the a/c would shut off. I understand the theory but as soon as the door is shut it should come back on. We never were able to get our room cooled down enough to sleep comfortably. It was very hot.

The rooms were very small and the lady at the front during the day was sour faced and rude.

The location of the hotel was perfect. It was right across the street from the hotel's private beach and 2 mins walk away from the cable car that took you up to the center of Taormina. The hotel is clean, friendly staff, lovely breakfast and great value for money in quite expensive taormina.

Good value for Taormina, which is otherwise very pricey. They did family rooms with sea views. Own entrance with own key. Private parking (at cost). Beautiful view. Excellent breakfast.

Neither of these points are the hotel's fault! However, it's at the beach, rather than in the old town, so the considerable cost of the cable-car has to be factored in as you may not want to do the steep walk up and down the cliff at night. Sharp shingle beach, so bring flip-flops or similar.

MBH is a family-run 1950's hotel with a dozen or so rooms just above the beach, A walk down a set of steps across the road takes you to the Mendolia Beach club, a seperate facility on the sand with beach chairs and a restaurant/bar. It is a five minute walk to the cable car which goes up to the town center of Taormina. This is one of the best values we experienced in Italy. The reason is the room. We loved our room. If you can handle a short flight of stairs after the topmost elevator floor, reserve room 129. It is a small corner suite with separate sitting room with complete kitchenette, bathroom and small bedroom. It offers a spectacular view of the bay from it's private balcony, with the bonus of a side patio complete with a dining table. This room is exactly what we envisioned when we planned our trip to the Amalfi coast and Taormina. Breakfast buffet was average to good. Typical variety of (too good) pastries, cereal, ham, cheese, etc. Hats off also to the ever-present, friendly and helpful Mario, who was a delight.

Like many rooms in Italy, the shower was small and drains very slowly and despite our bes efforts, always got the floor wet. The room has it's own 20 gallon (or so) hot water tank, so long showers for two people in a row are out. The sitting room has two day beds to sit on instead of a couch or comfortable chair. Understand the reason for this. Just saying...

A very well located hotel - all aspects were as per the reservation, staff heplful and friendly. Breakfast was adequate but no cooked food apart from a boiled egg.
